1/10 & 1/20 oz gold coins

Any tips on how to find gold coins in these sizes closer to spot?

Most of the dealers I've come across want a 7-12% premium, and it's just more than I want to pay...

its going to be hard to get low value gold at a good price (small coins)

is there some specific reason you only want gold?

Buy silver, more for your money, and better return on investment

I'm pretty comfortable with my current silver holdings... I'm just diversifying my stash a little with gold, and I prefer small, well known coins. I just can't seem to get away from the large premiums.

I have heard some folks mentioning good prices on british sovereigns, although this is all "Heard it from someone else"

I do not personally own any of them, but I believe they come in smaller denominations....

Slightly larger sizes than you're looking for - Not well known by the average consumer, well known to dealers and thoughout the world.
Premium about as low as it goes for small sizes.

IIRC, British Soveriegns and Kruggerands are the two most common bullion coins in the world. The French and Swiss francs are also very well known to dealers.

I know, not exactly what you asked for _grin_

However, about as close as you can get _bigger grin_

The best prices on 1/10 and 1/20th I've found was on Chinese Pandas (Current year, older one's are pricier) on apmex.com

That's what I buy when I don't have much to spend. That or 2.5 - 10 gram bars. Only down side is apmex's extreme (IMO) shipping prices. (On smaller orders that is)

66.5 for the tenths? My math skills are rusty but isn't that ~18% markup? ;)

Best I've found online has been the 1/10 am eagle @ nwtmintbullion.com: 60.85 (~7.5%)... still looking though.

To even get close to reasonable mark up you have to step up to the 1/2 ounce coins. Check out www.golddealer.com.

if NWTmintbullion is Northwest mint, I think you should search on that topic, seem to remember a number of folks waiting a long long time for their merchandise from that mint, unless you are walking in and buying retail....

Waiting months and months

I know a very good dealer for sovereigns in the UK. If you are interested send me a private message. No idea if he ships to the US but may be worth an email.

www.williamyoungerman.com

He has Sovereigns (.2354 oz. gold, or just under 1/4 oz.) for $4.00 over spot, and

Swiss and French 20 Francs (.1867 oz. gold, or just under 1/5 oz.) for $4.00 over spot.

I like Sovereigns. They are a smaller denomination, small premium, and are one of the most recognized coins in the world.

That is about as good as I have been able to find on smaller coins. I've bought from Youngerman, cash and carry. He's been doing this a long time, is reputable, and I was happy with the service I received.

I have read that in the smaller sizes of coin that you should look into Sovereigns, half Sovereigns, Italian 20 Lira,German 20 mark, Netherland 10 Guilder, Swiss 20 Franc, and my favorite the Mexican gold pesos. Go scout E-Bay Gold coins and then find out about the coins BEFORE BIDDING. The Dos Peso at 1.499... grams of pure gold/ 1.6666 grams total seems like a close match and the Dos y medio peso at 1.872.../ 2.0833 total weight would be good choices for the 1/20 coins. I got my info on Mexican pesos from www.goldline.com/coin/bullion/gold-bullion/mexican-50-peso-gold-coin.html

PILGRIM:

Just another one.

Don't wait too long the next up swing in gold prices should take us to about $620.00 so an

COINED OUNCE should be around $650.00 +/-

About $70 for a tenth ounce coin I'd guess.

best wishes,

I have concentrated my (small) Gold holding in the 1/10 Gold Eagle area.
You pay a premium but I bet you see that premium if you ever sell them too.

I'm First a Silver guy. But I also like a littel diversification and have been collecting 1/10s when I see them at a deal. Ebay sometimes shows me some luck and APMEX is about as low as I've seen them.

Good luck

BTW, I once saw an Ebay auction for 20 1/10th Eagles for for $1500

Re: 1/10 & 1/20 oz gold coins

I did a LOT of research on this a couple years back and decided on sovereigns for smaller gold. Frankly, most dealers seem happy to get rid of them and asking for a discount on a reasonable sized order has never failed me. Got 'em for .50 over spot once.
Your mileage may vary, of course. :cheerful:

Re: 1/10 & 1/20 oz gold coins

1/10 ounce coins are good to invest in and I would not worry too much about the premium. Yes, it is a little high compared to 1 ounce coins but remember you will be able to make that premium back when it comes time to sell. As a matter of diversification, it may be a good idea to have some of these. If gold goes to $2000, it is gonna be easier to unload a 1/10 ounce coin than it will be to unload a 1 ounce coin.

I would avoid 1/20 ounce coins. Too much premium involved and I think these are more for collectors.

FWIW

I buy .24 oz Proof US Gold Coins at like $6.00 over spot.
.24 is not a typo

I dont think anyone on this site knows it, Dinars are in super small increments, I think 1/30, 1/20 or something like that. There makin them small fractions cause they know pog is going up and they want the masses to be able to barter them. Not the west, no they need woppin big 1oz slugs, gluttons:haha:

Try apmex, they have a pretty good deal sometimes, they have fair buy now on 2 peso gold coins, only 2.00 over spot per coin.

Re: 1/10 & 1/20 oz gold coins

Apmex has 1/10 oz krugerrands for $58, that's the cheapest I've seen for the 1/10 oz coins lately.

Re: 1/10 & 1/20 oz gold coins

I wish you luck! Last Tuesday I went to my favorite coin shop that does millions of dollars in business per year. They take out full page adds in the St. Louis Post Dispatch. I have purchased many gold and silver coins from them in the past.

I have plenty of silver also and wanted to purchase three one ounce gold eagle coins to diversify my investments. They were all out, they have been all out, they are having difficulty getting any gold eagles. They had one lonely 1/4 ounce gold eagle to sell me.

I passed on the 1/4 ounce lonely gold eagle and bought 5 tubes of silver eagle coins instead.

I believe silver will out perform gold anyway! But, I question why this mega coin dealer does not and can't get any gold? I personally think people are wising up and trading their worthless fiat federal notes for something of everlasting value.

Could it be all the deals that are going on right now for 1/10 gold eagles at $51 bucks each? That might have some impact on it. I can't be certain.

Of course since everything is going up in price people might only be able to afford the 1/10 coins right now...

Waiting months and months

definitely go to nwtmintbullion.com for ur gold fractionals!!!!!! Call and ask for Michele Raines, the bullion assistant.

NWT has taken up to 7 weeks to send my friend silver, but they were pretty quick with the gold. 2 weeks...
You wont get any fakes or copies. Ask Michele how long the delivery will be, and have her note it on the sales slip.
They ship by registered mail. My friend who collects bullion is quite happy with them.

Dinars are virtually unknown but to dealers. I would be cautious if buying them for barter purposes.

I'm not Muslim so don't hold me to this if I am wrong, but aren't the weights of dinars prescribed by the Koran?

I just watched Tulving till he had them. No shipping cost and a great price.
Love the little philharmonics. No idols and a very pretty 9999 coin.
